The largest seamless steel pipe hot rolling unit in Shandong can produce products with a specification of up to 850 millimeters, and is planned to be put into operation in July 2026. This production line is constructed by Qingdao Gangxinyuan Metal Products Co., Ltd. and is known as the "850 Project". It is currently the world's largest hot-rolled seamless steel pipe production line in terms of caliber.
This project is the first to achieve one-time continuous rolling of large-diameter steel pipes, breaking through the limitations of traditional multi pass rolling and significantly improving production efficiency and product accuracy. After production, the annual production capacity can reach 800000 tons, focusing on high-end seamless steel pipes with outer diameters of 380 to 850 millimeters, widely used in major fields such as energy, nuclear power, and marine engineering.
The technological development of this unit marks China's shift from being a follower to a leader in the field of large-diameter hot-rolled seamless steel pipes, breaking the long-standing dependence on imports. For example, the complete set of equipment for large-diameter hot-rolled seamless steel pipe units designed and manufactured by Taizhong Group has a domestic market share of about 95%, covering hot-rolled products ranging from Ø 273mm to Ø 850mm.
