The hardenability is average. Workpieces with a diameter of less than 25mm can achieve a hardness of HRC50 or higher by water quenching, while the core of large section parts is difficult to fully quench
After high-frequency surface quenching, the surface hardness can reach HRC55~58, balancing core toughness and surface wear resistance
The welding performance is average, and preheating is required before welding to avoid the formation of cold cracks

Conventional mechanical properties (different states)
Annealing/Soft state: Hardness ≤ 207 HB, good machinability
Normalized state: Tensile strength of 600~750 MPa, yield strength of approximately 355 MPa
Quenching and tempering (quenching+high temperature tempering) state:
Yield strength Rp0.2: ≥ 490 MPa (section ≤ 16mm)
Tensile strength Rm: 700~850 MPa
Post fracture elongation A5: ≥ 14%
Sectional shrinkage rate Z: ≥ 35%
Impact absorption energy ISO-V: ≥ 40 J
Chemical composition (standard range)
Carbon (C): 0.42%~0.50%, with a typical value of 0.45%, is the core element that determines strength and hardenability
Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.40%, typical value 0.25%, mainly used for deoxidation
Manganese (Mn): 0.50%~0.80%, typical value 0.65%, improves hardenability and strength
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.030%
Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.035%
Residual elements: Cr+Ni+Mo ≤ 0.63%, some grades can add trace amounts of lead to improve machinability
C45E (material number 1.1191) is a classic European medium carbon quenched and tempered steel that complies with the EN 10083 standard, corresponding to domestic 45 steel and American standard 1045. It is widely used in the field of mechanical manufacturing.
