X8Cr17 corresponds to China's 1Cr17 (new grade 10Cr17) stainless steel, which is the ferritic stainless steel in the national standard, with a material number approximately equivalent to the American 430 stainless steel. ‌‌
X8Cr17 (digital material number 1.4016) is a seamless ferritic stainless steel pipe that complies with the German DIN 17400 standard. The corresponding domestic grade is 1Cr17, and it belongs to the same type of universal ferritic stainless steel as American standard AISI 430 (SUS430).

The standard chemical composition (mass fraction%) is as follows:
Carbon (C): ≤ 0.08%
Chromium (Cr): 16.00%~18.00%
Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.00%
Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.00%
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.040%
Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.015%
Nickel (Ni): ≤ 0.75%
This material uses chromium as the core alloy element, and its low-carbon design can effectively suppress the risk of intergranular corrosion. Its characteristic of not containing a large amount of nickel makes its cost much lower than austenitic stainless steels such as 304.
mechanical properties
In the annealed state, the typical mechanical properties of the seamless steel pipe are:
Tensile strength: 450~600 MPa
Specified plastic tensile strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 260 MPa
Post fracture elongation: ≥ 22%
Hardness: HB ≤ 183
This material has a pure ferritic structure and cannot be strengthened by heat treatment quenching. Only moderate work hardening can be achieved through cold processing.
It has good rust resistance and cold formability, and is widely used in home appliance decoration, automotive components, and structural component manufacturing in mildly corrosive environments.
